ProLife Medallion -- Life is Precious!
At the height of the inhumane transatlantic slave trade, the renowned British potter Josiah Wedgwood designed an iconic medallion that anti-slavery crusader William Wilberforce used to arouse public awareness of the barbaric institution that thrived on human misery and to further the cause of its abolition.
Wedgwood designed the famous medallion in 1787 that features a kneeling African slave in chains with the inscription "Am I Not a Man and a Brother?"
Wedgwood’s medallion, with its striking visual appeal and powerful emotional message, played a key role in this abolition of slavery and was widely distributed to raise awareness and to appeal to the conscience of the British public. The medallion leveraged the power of art and commerce to sway public opinion and eventually secure the passage of the Slave Trade Act of 1807 that made the British transatlantic slave trade illegal.
Today, over two centuries later, our country is grappling with an issue as charged as slavery was then: abortion and the right to life.
Chris Casler Productions is minting and marketing silver coins to raise awareness of the evils of abortion, to defend those persecuted for its opposition, and to promote the pro-life movement. Coins in gold and copper and in other denominations will likely follow in time.
